Doha Layover Guide: What to Do With 6, 8 or 10 Hours at Hamad Airport
A practical plan for every layover length at Hamad International Airport — what fits, what to skip and how to stay stress-free.

Is it worth leaving the airport?
Hamad International Airport is one of the world's best-loved transit hubs, but Doha itself is only a short drive away. The city centre and the Corniche are roughly 20–30 minutes from the terminal depending on traffic, so even a modest layover can include a proper taste of Qatar.
A simple rule of thumb: allow at least 3 hours to get through immigration, return, re-clear security and be at your gate. Whatever time is left is your sightseeing time. A guided tour with airport pickup removes the guesswork, because your guide watches the clock and keeps you on schedule.
If you have 6 hours
Six hours is enough for a focused city highlights tour. Meet your guide at arrivals, drive along the Corniche for skyline views, step into the park around the Museum of Islamic Art, browse Souq Waqif and be back at the airport in good time.
- Corniche and West Bay skyline photo stop
- Museum of Islamic Art park and exterior
- Souq Waqif and the Falcon Souq
- Return to Hamad International Airport with time to spare
If you have 8–10 hours
With eight hours or more you can add Katara Cultural Village and The Pearl-Qatar to a city tour — or swap the city for a desert safari. The Inland Sea desert safari takes around four to five hours door to door and is the most memorable use of a long layover.
What to check before you go
- Entry requirements for your nationality and ticket — confirm with your airline or the official Qatar visa portal
- Whether your luggage is checked through to your final destination
- Opening days and prayer-time closures for museums and attractions
- Weather: summer afternoons are very hot, so plan indoor stops or evening tours
