4 Days in Qatar: Doha, Desert and the North Coast

With four days you can cover Doha's essentials and add a day beyond the city — to the Inland Sea or the quieter north — for a fuller picture of Qatar.

The Inland Sea (Khor Al Adaid) where desert meets the Gulf

Days 1 and 2: Doha

Spend the first two days in the capital: the Corniche, the Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif, Katara and a sunset cruise. Keep one afternoon free for the National Museum of Qatar or Msheireb Downtown.

Day 3: desert safari

Take a full desert safari, ideally with a stop at the Inland Sea. It is the most photogenic day of the trip and a good contrast to the city.

Day 4: north or west coast

Choose one: a drive north to Al Zubarah Fort, the mangroves of Al Khor and Purple Island, or west to Zekreet's rock formations, Film City and the Richard Serra sculpture. Both are day trips that show the quieter side of Qatar.

  • North: Al Zubarah Fort, Al Thakhira, Purple Island
  • West: Zekreet, Film City, East-West/West-East

Plan around the weather

In summer, book outdoor activities early in the morning or toward sunset. In winter, the middle of the day is pleasant and the coast is at its best.

Quick answers

Should I choose the north or the west coast?

+

Choose the north for nature and heritage (mangroves, a fort) and the west for dramatic scenery and photography.

Is a rental car necessary?

+

A private driver or guided tour is easier than driving, particularly on unmarked desert roads.
